Ten Times… Day 4

9 Jul

I didn’t do this challenge last night because I was exhausted and I couldn’t come up with more than one or two people.  I kind of live in my own world and don’t focus too much on people outside of it.  So people I don’t know made it very difficult.  I will try to list as many as I can.  This is truly challenging.

  1. Marsha Linehan.  This is the easiest because she was speaking at the NAMI National convention I was attending.  She is the founder of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and herself has struggled with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
  2. Art Alexakis.  Lead singer/guitairst of the band Everclear.  I don’t know how I’d get through many nights without Everclear’s music, it helps me not to feel as alone and weird.

  3. P!NK.  Also impressed by her music and I can relate to her lyrics.  More so also impressed that she didn’t give up who she was to fit into some hollywood star box and was still successful.
  4. Vincent VanGough.  Troubled artist.  A year ago I really started to do some research on Vincent Van Gough and I am impressed with his ability to produce great art while struggling with some mighty demons.
  5. Justice Anthony Kennedy. The Supreme Court guy who wrote the closing argument on marriage equality.

That’s good enough for me…

Your #1 and #2 entries are interesting to me. Like you, I’ve listened to Everclear for many, many years and take a ton of comfort in the lyrics. Last fall, while dealing with an issue with my son, I was introduced to DBT and Marsha Linehan’s work. Since that time, it has become clear that I have been married to a BP for many, many years. And once I realized what I was dealing with, I came to the realization that Alex was probably married to a BP and just didn’t know. So many of his lyrics directly express what I run into every day. And now that I know what BP is and reading up about it, I keep coming back to DBT and Marsha’s work again.
