Poll: Medical/Psychiatric Records

23 Mar

For those of my fellow mental health bloggers here is a poll, feel free to elaborate in the comments.  If it was easy to have access to read your medical/psychiatric records, would you want to?

With Planned Parenthood I was automatically given a copy of the psychiatrists notes. It was hard to read some parts (ie: I am classified as having a history of violent behaviour on their records) but it was very interesting from an academic perspective to see what was said about me.

Would I want to see the notes from when I was a teen? Probably not. I think those would make me very sad.

It is easy to get access to my records, and I read them regularly.

while it was difficult to read my notes from some providers (they spelled out officially how hopeless said providers thought I was), I certainly would want access to all my records. I found in reviewing my records, there were some glaring errors made in a number of them. I think it may be best read with a supportive person around, or with relatively easy access to a supportive person, but I think knowing what is documented can be important.

i’d like to see mine. i imagine there is some very interesting info in them. i think though i’d want someone with me when i read them. my therapist maybe. i often think about getting the psych ones back. i have other ones from a former therapist that i saw in 2000.

I'l love to hear your thoughts
