Blog for Mental Health 2013

It’s that time of year again, well the beginning of the year!  Canvas of the Minds is sponsoring this year’s Blog for Mental Health.  It was started in 2012 with Lulu and I belonged to it last year as well.  The gist is that you use your blog to commit to posting about mental health for yourself and the blogging community.  You put the following badge on your homepage.  You link to who pledged you, or if you want to participate and were not specifically pledged by someone, check out Canvas and you can link to them.  You also write a short biography of your mental health and what it means to you.



I pledge my commitment to the Blog For Mental Health 2013 Project.  I will blog about mental health topics not only for myself, but for others.  By displaying this badge, I show my pride, dedication, and acceptance for mental health.  I use this to promote mental health education in the struggle to erase stigma.

A little about my mental health:

My diagnosis are currently Schizoaffective- bipolar type and Borderline Personality disorder.  I have many different symptoms that come and go and morph through out time.  These are the closest labels they could find for me.  My mental health issues began when I was a child, around 10 years old.  At 11 I was already diagnosed with Major Depression, Adjustment Disorder, and a sleep disorder and on two psychiatric medications.  Since I was a child other symptoms have come to be more prominent and other’s seem to lurk and come out only occasionally.  I have been diagnosed with many different things, depending on the symptoms presenting at the time, you can see these diagnosis and the criteria for them under a tab from the home page.  I have been hospitalized over a dozen times, taken over 30 different medications, been in various programs, classes, and groups, been through IOP (Intensive outpatient program) and PHP (partial hospitalization program), CBT, DBT, and EMDR as far as therapies go, ECT (ElectroConvulsive Therapy) aka Shock therapy and a surgery called VNS (Vagus Nerve Therapy/stimulation); I make mention of these various treatments on my blog.  I also have two specific sections to help out readers who are looking for information regarding mental illness/mental health; the categories are DBT and Resources.  DBT is mainly weekly summaries of when I was going to a DBT Skills Class.  DBT or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy was originally established to help treat BPD but has been successful in treating other disorders as well.  The resources sections contain anything from articles, re-blogs, handouts from hospitalizations, links to information sheets, and crisis numbers.  The resources section doesn’t contain resources just fro Schizoaffective and BPD, but many other diagnosis, disorders, or symptoms in general.

    Thank you so much for being a part of this, and for sharing our campaign this year. Lulu started something really amazing in 2012, and I’m glad we could keep it going this year!
